Biography

^[1]" JOSEPH KELLER, the sixth child of Henry and Catherine (Seitz) Keller, was born Oct. 17, 1795, on the Keller homestead, on or near the Baltimore and York turnpike, about seven miles south of York, Pa. He grew to manhood under the most primitive environment. During his childhood he attended only two or three short terms of school, and they also were primitive in their character. However, he had that which was better, the religious training of Godly parents and of a Godly grandmother. ...
In his thirteenth year the parents of Joseph Keller removed from York County, Pennsylvania, to Fairfield County, Ohio. ..."

Joseph Keller was first married to Catherine Bibler, the widow of Martin Hite, in 1826.^[2] Catherine Bibler died in childbirth with their son, Levi Keller, in 1827.

"On the 14th day of November, 1830. Joseph Keller was united in marriage to ELIZABETH TUSSING. who was born Mar. 27, 1807, in Fairfield County, Ohio. Her parents came from Rockingham County, Virginia, It was after this marriage, that Joseph bought 160 acres of land from his father, for which he paid $467.00. This farm was located in the northeast corner of Liberty Township, about four miles north of Baltimore. ... on this farm all his children, save the one by his first marriage, were born. " ^[3]

"On the 25th of May, 1846, his devoted wife, the mother of his children, passed through the "valley of the shadow of death" into the life beyond. ... His oldest daughter at that time was only fifteen years of age, and the cares of the home fell heavily upon her.
Late in the autumn of 1848. Joseph Keller was again marled, this time to NANCY GOOD, of Bremen, Il. Fairfield County. She was born May 26, 1806, in Fairfield County. This union was blessed with the birth of one child. ...
On the 22d of April. 1837, Joseph Keller had purchased a farm of 192 acres in Seneca County. Ohio. This consisted of 54 acres purchased of John Keller, and 158 acres from Josiah Hedges, et. al. This farm was three miles north of Tiffin, on the east bank of the Sandusky river. It was located just north of the John Keller homestead. ...
Here he lived until death, which occurred Jan. 15, 1855." ^[4]

At the 1850 Census, Joseph Keller had six children in his household.^[5]

Joseph Keller died in 1855 at Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio.^[7] He is buried at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Tiffin, Ohio.
