Biography

Margaret was born about 1821 her parents were William Kelly and Jane Sproul who were named on her death certificate. It is not known whether Margaret was Born in Scotland or Ireland. It is believed her parents were both born in Ireland and some of her Census records show she was born in Ireland - more research required.

Margaret married Malcolm Smith about 1839 in Scotland.^{[citation needed]}

In the 1841 Census Margaret (age 20), born Ireland, was recorded as wife of 'Malcom' Iron Moulder, and was in Ann Street, Milton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Her brother John Kelly, 27, was in the household on Census night.^[1]

Margaret has not yet been found in the 1851 Census.

In the 1861 census Margret (age 41), born Glasgow Lanarkshire, was the wife of Malcolm Smith at 11 Oakbank St, Glasgow Maryhill, Lanarkshire.^[2]

In the 1871 census Maryann (should read Margaret) (age 52), Iron Moulder Wife, was the wife of Malcolm Smith at 11 Oakbank St, Glasgow Maryhill, Lanarkshire.^[3]

In the 1881 census Margaret (age 60) was the wife of Malcolm Smith at 21 Possil Road, Glasgow St George, Lanarkshire.^[4]

Margaret passed away on 18th May 1889. At the time she was living at 22 Ferguson Street, Glasgow, Larnarkshire, Scotland. Her parents are named as William Kelly, a carter and Jane Sproul.^[5]

Research Notes

Removed location from Birth Location Field. It had said "Scotland or Ireland" as it is unknown on where she was actually born. As the field should only have one location this has been removed until the correct location is researched and ascertained.
