Alpheus Kendall was baptized on 20 Jun 1784, the son of Asa Kendall and Persis (Fuller) Kendall.[1] According to his gravestone, he was 84 years old when he died on 25 Jun 1868.[2]
Marriage
Alpheus Kendall and Roxany Goldsmith, both of Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, married there on 6 Jun 1805.[3]
Biographical Details
Alpheus and Roxana (Goldsmith) Kendall settled at Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts). They were probably there by October 1805, when the birth of their first child is shown in the Livermore vital records.[4] Alpheus built the second tannery in Livermore, near the outlet of Bartlett's Pond, and he was a captain of Livermore's miliia cavalry company.[5] They were still in Livermore in 1830.[6] By 1850 they had moved to Abbot, Maine, where they were living with their son Sylvanus and his family, Alpheus at age 65 and Roxana at 63.[7] (No record of Alpheus or Roxana Kendall has been found in the 1840 or 1860 census.)
Children
Alpheus and Roxana (Goldsmith) Kendall recorded the following children at Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts):[4]
The 1874 history of Livermore, Maine, says that Alpheus Kendall died at Dexter, Maine.[5] He has a gravestone at the Old Cemetery in Abbot Village in Piscataquis County, Maine, that gives his date of death as 25 Jun 1868 and says he was 84 years old at his death.[2] Dexter and Abbot are about 16 miles apart.
Research Note
Alpheus Kendall's FindAGrave memorial has links to two memorials of people whom Alpheus' memorial says were his children. An examination of the text on the stone in the photo on those memorials, however, shows that they were actually the sons of Alpheus' son Stedman Kendall.[8]
