Grace was born about 1716. She was the daughter of Absolom Kent and Mary Wadsworth. She passed away after 1776.
Several family historians have postulated that the maiden name of Grace, wife of John Veatch, was Masters. Those same researchers place Robert Masters (d. 1715/6 PGCo.) as her father. Neither of these two claims are supported with any evidence.
On the contrary, there is evidence found to support the theory that Grace, wife of John Veatch, may be the daughter of Absolom Kent.
In 1726, William Kent, brother of Grace, named John Veitch as his brother-in-law and guardian of his son. William’s sister Priscilla Kent married Thomas Wilson (who was Grace’s guardian after their father’s death).
However, it’s also possible that it was William Kent’s other sister, Mary, who married John Veitch.
Widow Grace Veatch appears in the 1776 census, living in Frederick County with her children. Her age is given as 60 years. If correct, it would make her too young to be the Kent sister married to John Veatch.
More research is needed.
