Biography

Ned W. Kershner, 86, of Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Hagerstown, MD, died at 7:23 AM, Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at his home. Born June 8, 1924 in Tilmington, MD, he was a son of the late Wayne J. Kershner and Lottie Smith Teeters. Ned retired from the Chessie System Railroad after forty-three years of service. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Scotland, PA, the American Legion Post, B.P.O.Elks Lodge, and Western Enterprise Fire Company, all in Hagerstown, MD, and the American Association of Railroad Superintendents. His beloved wife, Pauline Gontz Kershner, whom he married April 19, 1977, preceded him in death on January 5, 2007.

He is survived by a son, Ronald E. Kershner and wife Judy of York, PA; a daughter, Patricia Custer of Chambersburg; a daughter-in-law Jallene Custer of Florida; six grandchildren, Nick Kershner, Lorissa Sandy, Phil Tarquino, Michael, John, and Matt Custer; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of brothers and sisters. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Custer on August 27, 2006; two brothers; and a sister.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, December 18, 2010 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Beth Miller will officiate. Private interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. There will be no viewing.
