On this tenth day of July in the year 1845, personally appeared before the subscriber a justice of the peace in and for the County of Tazewell aforesaid, Deborah Perry, a resident of said County, aged seventy-five years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by act of Congress passed July seven, 1838, entitled, "An act granting half pay & pensions to certain widows:" That she is the widow of John Perry who was a cornet in the Continental line & served seventeen months. That she knows of one witness by whom to establish her husband's services, but she is advised that the rolls furnish evidence thereof: That her husband drew land & she presumes that the evidence upon which that was granted would be sufficient to entitle her to a pension. She is able to give no detail of her husband services, never having been well informed on the subject & her memory being at present almost gone. She further declares that she was married to the said John Perry January 8, 1787, & that her husband the aforesaid John Perry died on the 5th of March 1844: that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place prior to the 1st of January 1794 – viz. at the time above stated: & that she has since intermarried with no other person.
