Mayme was the daughter of Melvin and Nannie (French) Kindred and the sister of Everett. She was born in Estill County, Kentucky, in 1919. Her father was a farmer. Mayme married Ambrose Hisel around 1937. He was also a farmer, and in the early years of their marriage, the young couple lived and farmed next door to Mayme's parents. Their children were an infant daughter, who was born and died in 1937, Marjorie, Lois, and Edith. Mayme was a homemaker and a member of Beaver Pond Christian Church.
