Biography

My grandfather was sent to Bras D'or, C.B., N.S. to live with relatives when he was about 8 yrs. old. He travelled on the train from Brooklyn to C.B. by himself with only a note pinned to his coat, telling who was to pick him up upon arrival. Amazing!! He was also a cripple due to an accident when he fell out a rocking chair. In his younger days he worked as a farmer and a blacksmith. In the time I knew him, worked at the coal mine in Florence as a carpenter. He was a wonderful man.

Edward Charles(my grandfather was born in Brooklyn, NY. He fell out of a rocking chair when very young and injured his leg, so that he was slightly crippled for the rest of his life. As a teenager he was also gored by a bull in Bras D'or.

When he was about 8 years old he was sent to Cape Breton to live with relatives by his stepmother. This was after his father died and she was getting remarried. He travelled alone by train from Brooklyn, NY to Bras D'or with only a note pinned to his coat telling who was picking him up.
