Fred E. King, life-long resident and amateur historian, dies
Amateur Brown County historian Fred E. King died Wednesday evening, August 22, 2001, at his home on West Franklin Street. He was 85.
A life-long county resident, Mr. King was born June 1, 1916, in his family's homestead on Greasy Creek Road. His parents were Charles G. and Lillie May Crouch King.
He and Malinda Schrougham were married April 20, 1940, in Brown County. She died April 22, 1998.
He attended the county's one -room schools near town before graduating from the old Nashville High School in 1933.
Mr. King had worked as a clerk in the Nashville Post Office for many years before retiring in 1975.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving in 1944 and 1945.
