John King was born September 1, 1758, in Middletown, Pennsylvania, a son of Edward King and Elizabeth (Nichols) King. John enlisted as a Private, during the American Revolutionary War. He served in the Lancaster county Militia, in the units of Captains Elder, Whitley, Moore, Snider and Cowan. John applied for a pension based on his military service. [1]
John is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as DAR Ancestor # A066643. His DAR records indicate that he was married two times, first to Mary McKinley and secondly to Sarah White. Application for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his son, William King, who married Sarah Hall; and of his daughter, Elizabeth King, who married Adam White.
John died September 18, 1837, at the age of 79 years, and is buried in the New Bethel Cemetery, in Piney Flats, Sullivan county, Tennessee. [2]
