Josiah King was born about 1740 to Jonathan King and Phebe (Leonard) King.

Josiah King married Sarah Sampson daughter of Uriah Sampson and Anna (White) Sampson.

On Feb 20, 1775 Josiah King was a 1st Lieutenant in Captain James Williams jr. Company of Minutemen. [Emery:437] and on 20 April 1775 he mustered to Roxbury (miles miles) with Capt. James Williams company, this is documented on a list by Capt. James Williams on Dec 12.1775 at the Mass. State archive.[Emery:438]

On 1 August 1775 Josiah King is listed as a Captain in Col. Timothy Walker's regiment, with 24 men reporting to Captain Josiah King [Emery:440]
In March 1776 Capt. Josiah King is listed in the Third Regiment under Col George Williams.[Emery:443]

And on April 11, 1777 Capt. Josiah King is with Col George Williams Bristol County regiment on their march to Camp Warren and back.[Emery:454] and on a "secret mission" Sept 9 1777 to Oct 29, 1777.[Emery:455].
Capt. Josiah King's company was detached from the regiment to serve in Rhode Island Aug. 25 1778 to Sept.31, 1778, this while the British were attacking Rhode Island. [Emery:459-60]

Capt. Josiah King is noted as son of Jonathan and Phebe (Leonard) King and was representative to the Mass. Legislature in 1807-10-11-12-13, as being born in 1740 and having died Sept 28, 1827.[Emery:482]

It appears Josiah King had an earlier wife Basheba Turner daughter of Priest Turner and they had 6 children all baptized Apr.4 , 1780:
