Biography

Edmund Kirke, son of John Kirke & Eleanor (or Helen) Bell, was born on 13 MAR 1719 at East Markham, ^[1]

Occupation: articled as an attorney 1736 ^[2]

He, along with his brother-in-law, John Bright was Bailiff of Retford in 1777 They oversaw the repaving of all the streets of the town. ^{[3] [4]}

He was, along with his brother, William, trustee of Atkinson's charity, which provided bread for the "most needfull(sic) poor" of East Markham. It was distributed each Sunday.^[5]

He died on 4 DEC 1786 and is buried in East Markham, England ^[1][6]

His will, proved on 8 June 1789, is held in the National Archive^[7]

Gentleman of Besthorpe and South Searle J P for Notts. no children. His Book of Writts passed to the Mason family of Morton Hall along with other Kirke books - not sure where it is now.
