Jane was born in New Cumnock, Ayrshire on 10th April 1863. She was the daughter of Hugh Kirkland and Catherine Rankine Campbell. ^[1]

By 1881 Jane was 17 years old and a millner. She lived with her parents and siblings Thomas Kirkland and James Campbell in Castle Street, New Cumnock. William Shaw, an accountant, boarded with the family. ^[2]

Jane married William Walter Shaw in Kelvin, Glasgow in 1886. ^[3]

In 1891 Jane was 27 years old and lived at Townhead, Sorn with her husband William and children Catherine and John. ^[4]

In 1901 Jane was 37 years old and lived at 88 High Street with her husband William and children Catherine, John, Hugh, Agnes and Elizabeth. Also present was her mother, Catherine Kirkland and two servants, Helen Carmichael and Agnew Chalmers.^[5]

jane passed away in Lanark, Lanarkshire on 10th July 1939. ^[6]
