This story was told to me by my grandmother Estelle regarding the death of her sister Odell:
Odell and I were walking home from school to the old home-place cabin on Pope's Chapel Road when Odell suddenly bent over with terrible pains in her belly. She laid down on the side of the road while I (Estelle) ran home to get daddy. We returned a short time later with the wagon and proceeded to take her to Gertrude Comer Hospital, that was located in Pell Ctiy, Alabama. This was a long and very bumpy journey for the sick Odell, approximately 10 miles. Little did we know that Odell's appendix had ruptured and she died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Mother and daddy were grief stricken at the death of their oldest daughter.
