Hilda was born in 1883 to parents Gotlieb Klukas and Julianna Rast. married to Gustav Henkelman Lived in Edmonton, Alberta, according to the 1911 Canadian Census. Preliminary biography for Hilda Hulda (known as Hilda) was born in Volhynia, Russia (present-day Ukraine) and arrived in Quebec and Montreal on 26 May 1894 on the S.S. Numidian with her family. Her parents were Gottlieb Klukas and Julianna Wilhelmine Rast and she had six (known) siblings: Adolph Klukas, Ludwig Klukas, Amelia "Wilhelmine" Dargatz, Albertina Bienert, Louise Klukas and Augusta Klapstein.

Hilda married Gustav Henkelman on March 6, 1904 in Bruderfeld (South Edmonton area). The next year they established a farm in what would become the community of New Sarepta. Here they farmed and for many years Gus was the post master. In 1927 they moved to McBride, British Columbia (west of Jasper, Alberta) where Gus's sister and brother-in-law had moved in 1925. They farmed east of McBride in the Beaver River district and moved to Vancouver about 1944. Hilda loved to correspond with and visit her relatives, keeping track of important events and dates in her diary. In her later years she lived with her youngest daughter Ellen Woodley in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
