Biography

Harriet Ellen Knight was born in 1875 in Parkes, New South Wales, Australia, the daughter of James Knight and Christiana Ann (Annie) Packham^[1]. She was the sister of Elizabeth A Knight, Annie Alberta (Knight) Townsend, George Henry Knight, Adeline Esther Knight, John Percival Albert Knight, Thomas Leonard Knight, Cecil L Knight, Minnie Sylvia Armstrong (Knight) Hathaway and Cecilia Clarice (Knight) Coleman.

She married Patrick Joseph Kirby on 17 April 1901 in Leichhardt, New South Wales, Australia ^[2] and they were the parents of William Henry Kirby, Joseph Kirby, Lillian Kirby and Mary (Molly) Annie Kirby.

Her husband died on 7 April 1919 leaving her with three children aged between 18 and 12. Their youngest, Joseph, had died as a new born. On 19 December 1931 Harriet established a new company as P J Kirby & Co., Ltd, which was to be a General Store provide a variety of merchandise and skills including Millinering and Ironmongering. The directors were herself, three of her children, and C S Spooner ^[3].

Harriet died on 3 October 1951 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia ^[4][5][6].
