Biography

Church of Ireland Clergy

Charles was the son of Thomas Knox, 1st Viscount Northland, and Anne Vesey.

He was educated by Mr Ireland and entered Trinity College Dublin on 25 October 1787, aged 17. B.A. 1791, M.A. 1807. [1]

He was collated as Prebendary of Moville (Derry) on 21 January 1807. (FF.) He resigned in 1814, and was collated Archdeacon of Armagh on 6 May 1814 (D. Reg.), installed May 9th. While still Archdeacon of Armagh he was collated Prebendary of Rathmichael (St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin) on 2 September 1817 (FF.) ; installed September 20th. He retained the archdeaconry and the prebend until his death in 1825.

He published " An Address to Parents and Sponsors upon the Subject of Confirmation" Dublin, 1823.

On 20 December 1804 Charles married Harriet Bent, widow of James Fletcher and daughter of Robert Bent.

On the 20th inst. was married by special licence at Dungannon Park, Tyrone, Ireland, the Hon. and Rev. Charles Knox, son of Lord Viscount Northland, and brother of the Bishop of Derry, and of the Member for the University of Dublin, to Mrs. James Fletcher., daughter of Robert Bent, Esq. late M. P. for. Aylesbury.

Their sons Thomas & Charles both married Bents who were probably sisters as they appear to have had a double wedding . [3]

He died on 30 January 1825. [4]

On the 30th ult. at his house in Merrion-square, Dublin, the Hon. and Rev. Charles Knox, Archdeacon of Armagh, and Rector of Bray.
