Oscar was born in 1894, the son of Adolph Carl Julius Kronk and Margaretha Lattmann[1].
He and his eldest brother William emigrated from Australia to New Zealand.
Oscar was working as a Labourer when he enlisted in the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces on 7 February 1917 at New Plymouth (Service Number WW1: 54535). His next of kin was recorded as A. J. Kronk (father), Kangaroo Flat, via Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. His brother William also enlisted. Oscar served as a Rifleman with Reinforcements H Company (part), New Zealand Rifle Brigade.
War wound notice: The Bendigo Independent (Vic. : 1891 - 1918) Sat 19 Jan 1918 - PTE. OSCAR KRONK. Mr. and Mrs. A. Kronk, Kangaroo Plat, late of Bmu. Creek, have been notified that their son. Private Oscar Kronk, of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces, has been seriously wounded in France. (gunshot)[2].
He was discharged on 21 April 1919, having been deemed no longer physically fit on account of wounds received in action. Oscar returned to Australia.
He married Mary Anne Alma Davies in 1922 in Victoria[3].
They had three children: Stanley, Harry, and Robert.
Oscar passed away in 1981 aged 87[4] and was buried on 4 September 1981 at Bendigo Public Cemetery, Bendigo, Greater Bendigo City, Victoria, Australia[5]. PLOT: Lawn 4, Grave 45031
