Biography

Maria was born in Victoria West, Cape Province, South Africa on 16 March 1847. She was baptised on 2nd May 1847 ^[1]at the Dutch Reformed Church in Victoria West, where her father was a farmer. Maria was the daughter of Floris Johannes Kruger and his first wife Cecilia Johanna van Rensburg.

Her mother died in 1868, when Maria was 21 years old and her father remarried the following year.

She was still living when her father passed away in 1874 and is named on his death certificate.
