Charles Kurzhals was born in Saxon, Germany, on January 5, 1850 and passed away in Austin, MN Friday, August 9 at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 4 days.

He was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Schulze in 1871 and came to America in 1873. They came here in the fall of 1918 from Brookings, SD and made their home here until 2 years ago when he makde his home with a daughter at Oakland, MN. His wife preceeded him in death 2 years ago last April. He was laid to rest beside the remains of his wife at Austin.

To this union, 6 children were born, 3 daughters and 3 sons. One daughter died in childhood.

To mourn his loss are two daughters, Mrs. Selma Phillips of Madison, MO and Mrs. Annie Brechtel of Austin, MN and one son, Jake Kurzhals of Oakland, MN, Charles Kurzhals, Jr. of South Falls, SD and Henry Kurzhals of Pine City. Also 44 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
