Biography

Samuel was born on 16 Mar 1664 (1665?), in Salem, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was the son of John Lambert and Preserved Gaskoyne.[1][2]

In his probate papers, Samuel was described as a "shoreman."

Samuel married Margaret Browne in Salem. The date of the marriage is uncertain and missing from the collected vital records of Salem, but it was in 1690 or earlier, based on the birth of their first child in January of 1690 (possibly 1691).[3]

Samuel and Margaret had six children:

Samuel Lambert died in early 1732, between the time he approved the text of his will (17 Jan 1732) and 3 Apr 1732, when probate was begun on his estate.[11]

Probate

In his Last Will and Testament, dated 17 Jan 1731/2,[12] he willed the use and improvements of his estate to Margaret, his wife, for the term of her life, as long as she did not remarry, in addition to £50. If she remarried, she was to have £200 from his estate. He also named his son-in-law Joshua Tyler and Margaret, his wife (to receive £100 after his wife's death); his son-in-law Thomas Mason and Preserved, his wife (to receive s5); his son-in-law Benjamin Manning and Hannah, his wife (to receive £100 after his wife's death); his grandson Thomas Mason (to receive £20); his granddaughters Margaret and Abigail Mason (to receive £15 apiece after his wife's death); his daughters Margaret Tyler, Preserved Mason and Hannah Manning were to receive all the beds, bedding and linens after his wife's death; his sons Joseph Lambert and Jonathan Lambert were to receive the remainder of his estate, equally divided between them, after his wife's death. He named Margaret, his wife, as his sole executor.
