Biography

Cecil Othello Lancaster was born on 23 Oct 1915 in Corinna, Penobscot, Maine, United States.


Cecil died on 6 Apr 1999[1][2][3] in Pittsfield, Maine aged 83.

      Cecil Othello Lancaster, 83, also of Hartland, died Tuesday at Sebasticook Valley Health Care Facility, Pittsfield. He was born in St. Albans, a son of Cecil Mark and Nina Holt Lancaster. He attended Newport Grammar School and graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1938. He also graduated from the Casey Jones School of Aeronautical Mechanics and in 1949 from the University of Maine with a bachelors of science in economics. He also attended Harvard University Advanced School of Government and the University of Chicago School of Public Administration.
      He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific theater as a gunner flying many missions in the plane, "Taxpayers' Pride." In July 1945 he was honorably discharged as a technical sergeant.
      He was employed as a log scaler in the New Hampshire lumber industry, as well as a real estate salesman in Bangor. He was president of the Massachusetts City and Town Manager Assoc., as well as a city and town manager in Maine, New Jersey and Massachusetts. He was also a notary public and presided over many weddings.
      He owned and operated Lancaster Kennels, Wilmington, Mass., featuring the Belgian sheepdog (Groendale) variety. He raised many champions of record and obedience degreed dogs. He was an appointed member of the Maine Animal Welfare Commission, and became a licensed American Kennel Club judge of the working and herding breeds. He was also president of the Greater Lowell (Mass.) Kennel Club.
      He served as director of two hospitals, Scott Webb Medical Center, Hartland, and Hale Hospital, Haverhill, Mass.
      He was elected to the Maine Legislature in District 107, Kittery.
      Mr. Lancaster was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, Palmyra. He also was a member of the Corinthian Lodge, Hartland, the Kora Temple Shrine, Lewiston, the York County Shrine Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Fairfield. He was also a member of the Kittery Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, as well as the American Legion and the Portsmouth, N.H., Elks.
