Biography

Benjamin Franklin “Frank” Lancaster was born in 1892 in Decatur, Wise, Texas. Frank married Persia E. Welch (1892-1974). Frank, a farmer, moved in 1937 “to the Sleeping Child area of the valley.” He worked for the Montana Fish and Game Department from 1943 until he retired in 1957, when Frank and his wife moved to near Victor Crossing (Montana). He died, aged 75, on 21 October 1967 at Hamilton, Ravalli, Montana, and is buried with his wife at Victor Cemetery, Victor, Ravalli, Montana.[1]

In 1900, the Lancaster family, Allen and Martha, and their eight children, lived on their farm in Pawnee Township, Oklahoma. All members of the household could read and write, except for the youngest child. The household included:

  • Allen P. Lancaster, 50, born Sept 1850 Arkansas, parents b. TN, a farmer, owned their farm without a mortgage
  • Martha C., 39, b. 1861 Mo, parents b. TN, had had 9 children, all living
  • Colubmus D., 21, b. June 1879 TX, farm laborer
  • Robert A., 22, b. Sept 1878 TX, farm laborer
  • William R., 18, b. April 1882 TX, farm laborer
  • Luther M., 17, b. Oct 1883 TX, farm laborer, in school
  • Daniel L., 13, b. Sept 1887, farm laborer, in school
  • John J., 11, b. Aug 1889, in school
  • Monty Z. (daughter), 9, b. Jan 1891 TX, in school
  • Frank, 8, b. Sept 1892.[2]

Frank’s father, Allen P. Lancaster served in the CSA during the Civil War, in Company C, 4th Arkansas Mounted Infantry. Sometime after the war, he moved to Oklahoma Territory. Allen applied for his Soldiers Pension in 1900 in Oklahoma.[3]

In 1910, the Lancaster family lived on their farm in Skedee, Pawnee, Oklahoma. All members of the household could read and write, except for the three young children. The household included Allen P. Lancaster, 59, born in Arkansas (parents b. TN), a farmer, who owned their farm without a mortgage; his wife of 35 years, Martha, 46 (51), b. MO (father b. TN), who had had nine children, eight were living; their two sons, Benjamin F., 17, b. TX, in school, and farm laborer; and Luther M., 26, b. TX, farm laborer; his wife of three years, Sarah, 24, b. TN (parents b. TN), had had three children, all,living; and their children, all b. Oklahoma, Illdia, 5; Monroe I., 3; and Allen, 1.[4]
