Biography

The family story states that Wiley was an overseer on the plantation owned by Nathan Saunders, and that Nathan wasn't too happy to see his daughter married to his overseer. It has also been said that they eloped. However, in a letter written by Alline Henderson, the marriage took place in Shelby County, Tennessee and is listed in those records..... W.W. Langham married Nancy Saunders 2 Apr, 1829. Nathan Saunders test. Sec 1... Henderson acting J.P.. Doesn't sound like they eloped if her father was there............

From the notes of Alline Henderson: The Wiley Washington Langham family did not come to Texas until 1838 and Wiley W. was not in the Battle of San Jacinto. They came to Texas from Shelby County, Tennessee, and went back to Hempstead County, Arkansas in 1844.

Notes

Per Myrtle Estelle Reynolds: on August 13, 1987: Robert J(efferson) Langham's father (Wiley) was on the way from Arkansas in a wagon train. His mules got into a farmer's corn. When he went to settle with the farmer for damages, the farmer shot and killed him. He was buried at road side.

NOTE... same story, more detail.... from another researcher:

The family was on way from Arkansas to Collin County. Somewhere north of Paris along the Red River, there was a dispute between Wylie Washington Langham and a person into whose field Wylie's horse went. When Wylie Washington Langham turned his back to walk away, the man shot him. He died and is buried somewhere along that trail "wrapped in a quilt." Nancy Ann Langham's death is recorded as September 1891. Submitted by 4th great-granddaughter.

Last will and testament of Wiley Washington Langham.....

I Wiley Washington Langham in view of the near approach of death and feeling deeply interested in my familys future welfare, do while in my proper mind, make and ordain this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others.

It is my desire that all my property of every kind, consisting of land in Collin County, Texas, horses, cattle, and hogs, household and kitchen furniture, wagons gear and farming tools be kept together for the use and benefit of my wife Nancy Ann Langham and our children until the youngest becomes of the age of twenty one years.

It is my wish and desire that my two oldest sons Elzy M. Langham and Mitchell M. Langham have each fifty acres apiece out of my land in Collin County (they having paid for the same).

It is my wish and desire for my sd. wife, Nancy Ann Langham to take charge and keep the management of our children that are not of age, and that my sons that are of age live with her, superintend her affairs, transact her business for her so that the family may be all kept together and move on just as though I were living with them.

It is my will and desire that when my youngest child comes at twenty-one years of age that my property be equally divided amongst all my children except enough to support my wife Nancy Ann her lifetime and should she die before the youngest child is of age I desire the division of my property at that time (that is at her death).

It is my wish that my wife Nancy Ann Langham and my eldest son Elzy M. Langham should carry this will into effect and I hereby appoint sd. wife Nancy Ann Langham Executrix and sd. Elzy M. Langham Executor of this instrument and I hereby appoint sd. Elzy M. Langham guardian of my minor children.

Given under my hand and seal and a scroll being used for a seal this 4th Sept A.D. 1854.

Signed Wiley Washington (X) Langham (seal)

Wm. C. Whitsett, M. McDonald, Waddy Carlisle

It is my further will and desire that my youngest children who have as yet received no property from me should when the general division takes place of my property receive as much each before the general division as to make them equal with my older children. I having given the older ones some property, after the younger ones are made equal with the older then an equal division of the remainder of my property among them all and furthermore that the probate have no control than probate the will.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Wiley by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Wiley:
