Biography

William was born in 1864. A New York census shows him at age 1 with his parents and siblings.^[1]

The 1875 census shows them in Yorkshire Town, Cattaraugus and adds Edith E (5) and Amelia (3).^[2] The 1880 census provides another update.^[3]

Twenty years later William appears with a wife and two daughters. They have been married 6 years with 2 children born and two living. Their surname appears to be written with a "u".^[4]

His father's 1906 obituary gives some useful information. His father was Lorenzo Dow Langmade, born in Wyoming county, New York 5 Apr 1835, and deceased 7 Nov 1906 at Oberlin, Kansas. He married Julia Salome Strong in 1851.^[5]

The 1910 census adds two daughters and show interesting name variation. William was a lawyer in general practice.^[6]

The 1920 census adds just one child, William S. Langmade, Jr., age 6, born in Missouri.^[7] In 1930 the household is down to just William, Margaret, and that youngest son^[8] and in 1940 only William and Margaret remain.^[9]

William died in 1947.^[10]
