I added to her nick name of "Betty Hix" - as shown in deeds and memory of her children in Natchez, Adams Co., Miss.
Elizabeth Lanier was the daughter of Thomas Lanier and Elizabeth Hicks. She married Joseph Winston. She is mentioned as "my Daughter Elizabeth Winston" in her father's will, which he signed in 1804 and which was recorded in August 1805.

#544 - Elizabeth (Betty) Lanier b. Sept. 29, 1750 Lunenburg Co. Va. d. before 1810, m. Aug. 28, 1766 Joseph Winston (from the Raleigh Register) b. June 7, 1746, d. Apr. 21, 1815. In 1777 Governor Caswell appointed him and Robert Lanier, his brother-in-law, to treat with the Indians; he served throughout the Revolution, became a Colonel, he served under General Nathaniel Greene at the Battle of Guilford Court House, where there is a handsome monument, and at his death in 1815, he was buried on the battlefield, and has a modest stone. Winston-Salem was named in his honor.
