Biography

John Jacob was born on 15 December 1763 in Hellam Township, York County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Heinrich Lanius and Anna Margaretha Fischel.[1] His baptismal record reads "the 3rd day of Christmas" for the date of the baptism, so starting with Dec 25th as the 1st day, the baptism would be Dec. 27.[2]

He appeared on the Botetourt County, Virginia, second district tax list in 1794 as 'Jacob Lawness' having one male over age sixteen, no blacks and no horse.[3] In 1798 he was taxed $172.50 on his home in Hopewell Township, York County, Pennsylvania.[4] Fincastle was the gateway to the west at this time, being situated on the eastern edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

When John Jacob was about 31 he married in 1795 in (Virginia?). The couple had five known children: Hester, Elizabeth Lanius.[5], Daniel, William, and Adam.

John Jacob died at the age of 69 on 10 December 1833 in Potosi, Washington County, Missouri.[5]

John was born in 1763. He was the son of Heinrich Lanius and Anna Margaretha Fischel. He passed away about 1833.
