Hanna Lapthorn, daughter of Thomas and Jane, was baptised on 1758 in Brixton, Devon.[1] (See research note below.)
James Shepherd and Hannah Lapthorn were married on 2 Mar 1783 at St Andrew's, Plymouth, Devon, England. Hannah Lapthorn was a resident in St Andrew's Plymouth at the time of her marriage. Thomas Lapthorn was one of the wedding witnesses.[2]
Hannah Sheppard, age 55, residence Duke Street, was buried on 9 October 1816 in Stoke Damerel, Plymouth, Devon, England. [3]
Research Note
The connection of Hannah Lapthorn wife of James Shepherd to parents Thomas and Jane is not certain, but is supported by circumstantial evidence:
Wedding location (near her potential birthplace of Brixton, Devon) and witnesses
Her potential brother Stephen was a thatcher in Brixton but had a connection with James Shepherd's home of Sherford (Stephen fathered a child with a woman living there in 1787)
James Shepherd's father James Shepherd and Hannah's mother Jane Shepherd were both connected with Newton Ferrers and were of a similar age, so James and Hannah may have been related.
She is probably not Hannah Lapthorne, daughter of Stephen and Mary, baptised on 26 Oct 1765 in Yealmpton, Devon. (Hannah Lapthorne married Thomas Carne on 27 Jan 1793 in Yealmpton.).
