Joseph Larin was born in 1885 in Cornwall, Ontario. He married Susan Lucie Miron in 1906, in his hometown. They had one known child during their marriage. He died in 1938, in Cornwall, Ontario, at the age of 53.

He was the son of Jeremiah Laurin and Alphonsine Girard.
