Biography

Marriage

A license for the marriage of Andrew Derryberry and Mary Lasley was issued in Maury County, Tennessee, on November 20, 1819, and the couple was married on November 23, 1819, by John Field, J.P.[1][2]

Death and Burial

Mary died on March 10, 1875, and is buried at the Plano Mutual Cemetery, Plano, Collin County, Texas, USA.[3] You can see a picture of her gravestone at Find A Grave.

Sometimes called Lanley and sometimes Bray. Lasley is on marriage record. A John H. Lasley married Elizabeth Thompson in Maury Co., TN, license issued Oct. 6, 1840. This could lead back to Mary's brother?

Walters Lasley grandson of John H. Lasley and great-grandson of Thomas Lasley, great-great grandson of Thomas Lasley who d. in Orange Co., NC in 1823 and married Hannah.

Thomas Lasley (Jr.?) was b. 20 jun. 1788 Orange Co. NC, died 1 May 1873 in Maury Co., TN, married Catherine Pickard who was also b. in Orange Co., NC on 12 Apr. 1791 and d. 5 Oct. 1860 in Maury Co., TN. If this is not Mary's parents, they stand a good chance of being close relative. Thomas Lasley (Sr.?) runs good chace of being her grandfather.

John H. Lasley's will is filed in Book F-1, page 370 in Maury County, TN Thomas Lasley is on 1823 tax list of Maury Co, with 83 acres.

LDS record 112583 lists Thomas Lasley, born 31 March 1781 in VA, died 20 Jan. 1857 at McMinville, TN, married 1810 in KY to Susan Nelson (she born Greenup Co., KY on 14 Sep. 1847. His father was Manoah Lasley, who died at 88 years of age. His mother was Mary Wash. Thomas was a Methodist preacher in KY, as was his father. His children were Susan, M. N., Wm., Mary and another daughter. This is information from Joyce Minton, 13841 Red Hill Ave., Tustin, CA 92680.

Her parents probably were Thomas Lasley and Susan Nelson, both from VA.

Confederate pension # 11039 of James Thomas Lasley of Union City, TN, was 76 when filed in about 1907, was born in Gibson Co., TN. His father was John Lasley, born in 'Murry' Co., TN, later in Yorkville, Gibson Co., TN, was in the 47th TN Inf. His mother was Belle Baldridge (found to be Isabella N. Baldridge, born 1819 in Maury Co., TN), daughter of James L. Baldridge and Narsessa Henderson (they were first cousins) of Yorkville, TN. His grand parents came from Ireland. His parents had 15 'darkies' and they all played together, all alike. He attended Yorkville Academy, a private subscription school. He joined Forrests' Cav. at Abbeyville, MS in fall of 62. He was in 26 battles and skirmishes, discharged at Gainesville, AL. He became a doctor at Yorkville and Troy,Justice of the Peace, a died in the wool Democrat. He was found to be grandson of Thomas Lasley born 20 June 1788 in Orange Co., NC, died 1 May 1873 in Maury Co., TN and Catherine Pickard born 12 Apr 1791, Orange Co, NC died 5 Oct 1860, Maury Co., TN. Their son John H. Lasley born 1818 would be near contemporary with Mary Lasley.

Her grave in the Plano Mutual Cemetery is located in the front section, second row, go straight down the gravel road they are on the second row at the far end in front of the second house garage that is painted a brick red in 2008. Tombstone photo from Plano Mutual Cemetery, Collin Co., TX: "Mary, wife of Andrew Derryberry, born June 22, 1802, died Mar. 10, 1876."

Brian Anton's notes: "Lasley family researcher Larry Heisner stated in an online post dated 19 Feb 2000 that he had an extensive family history showing Mary was the daughter of Thomas Lasley (b. 1782) and Susan Nelson, and granddaughter of Manoah Lasley, cofounder of the Lasley United Methodist Church in Louisa Co., VA.
