Biography

Mary Ellen, the oldest sister b: 1851-52, married John Henry Comer 31 Dec 1868 in Pettis, MO. and they did not move to Oregon until after the 1870 census. -- raised Richard until the 1880 census. This after their mother died, 4 months after Richards birth--- 1870 census they had moved to Rutland, Montgomery Kansas. John (Connor) COMER and Ellen ages are right and place of births... also a new 8 month old baby boy, John and living with them is Richard Lee. 9 years old born Missouri.

On the 1880 census Richard Lee is living in Webb City, Jasper, Missouri. as a "boarder" in a large rooming house. "Single-20- born in Missouri" he did not give the states his parents were born.

The other 3 siblings went to other homes. Levisa, is found living at a neighbors, Henry Thomas family home on the 1870 census.

5. Virgil Ortho "Sonnie" died age 20 in a buggy accident. He was deaf/dumb.

On the 1930 census there is an R.M Lee living as a "roomer" with W.E Poindexter at 803 East 13 St. Sedalis Pettis Mo. parents state of birth correct. He is saying M married but Ruth's name is not there, or any wife.

1940 census ward #3 Sedalia, Pettis MO. 404 E. 12th St HEAD: Bill Bailey age:22 Mo rents home Lodger: Richard LEE age:72 MO

So the death cert gives residence address as 728 E. 5th St Sedalia, same neighborhood as 1940.

The death cert that Craig Leavitt att'd gives "Informant" as Mrs. C.E. Browning of Warrensburg. Clara is their daughters name, bet she is the one that is so very knowledgeable, even knowing the maiden name of her grandmother. Clara E. Lee-Browning (Bio by Carole Taylor)

Richard is buried here with his first wife Lovie Hood-Lee his 2nd wife Ruth E Ditton-Lee and one of his daughters Irene.
