John was born to Daniel and Sibbel Eames Leland in Holliston on June 2, 1787.[1]
John married his distant cousin Sylvia Lealand (born to Oliver and Abigail Leland) in Holliston on Mar. 22, 1807.[2]

Little record of this family in Holliston after 1813, suggesting they removed elsewhere, until:
Sylvia died Dec. 25, 1846, age 58, of consumption, in Philadelphia. John outlived her, as she is listed in death as "w. of John."[5]
In addition to children Sylvia and Harriett shown above, "The Leland Magazine" indicates that John and Sylvia had the following other children:
"The Leland Magazine" indicates that John and his family left Holliston, Massachusetts and settled in West Haverford, Pennsylvania (near Philadelphia). And, in fact, John is found in the 1840 U.S. Census of Lower Merion, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, an area adjacent to West Haverford and near Philadelphia. It is at this location that John's wife Sylvia passed away in 1846.
Sometime after the death of Sylvia, John left the Philadelphia area and settled in Farmer's Valley, McKean County, Pennsylvania. On August 8, 1858 the local newspaper notes his marriage to "Lauretta B. Otto". They had no children.
John is found in the 1860 and 1870 U.S. Census of Keating, McKean County, Pennsylvania and he passed away there on June 24, 1873.
