Biography

Lucy Leuchars was born on 8th Auguast 1805 and was baptised on 17th November 1805[1], at Westminster, London. She was the daughter of James Leuchars and his wife Lucy Friend.


Lucy marries on 7th June 1832[2], at St James Church, Piccadilly, Westminster to James Hooper.

Lucy and James have 4 children, John Bishop Hooper, 1833-1903, James Hooper, 1834-1870, Lucy Hooper, 1835-1837 and Fanny, 1838-1870.


In 1841[3] she is living with her mother at St James, Piccadilly, London. Lucy Leauchars age 65 a dressing case maker not born in Middlesex, Fanny Leuchars age 25 born Middlesex, Henry Leuchars age 12 born Middlesex, Lucy Hooper age 30 born Middlesex, Fanny Hooper age 3 born Middlesex, and 2 servants, Emma Beale and Elizabeth King.

1851[4] sees Lucy staying at Hariett C Auckland`s House in New Brentford, Middlesex as a visiter. She says she is 45, the wife of a brockers clerk, born in London. There are also 2 servents living at the address.

1861[5] census now shows Lucy as a boader at the home of Mary Secretan. She states that she is a 51 year old widow, occupation says clerk women born in Piccadilly, Middlesex.

In 1881[6] Lucy is still living at Mary Secretan`s House in Hamstead, she is stated as a 75 year old widow, with no occupation born in London.


Lucy dies on 28th March 1886[7] at 22 Fulbrook Road, Halloway, Islington, aged 80, cause Cardiac Diseace and Bronchitus. Her son John Bishop Hooper is prescent at her death. She dies of Cardiac Disease and Brochitus aged 80.
