  • This story replaces Fowler/Foster Swindal.

Mary Anna Swindal married Miles Lafayette Fowler. Sarah Naomi "Sallie" Swindal married Isaac Monroe Fowler. Minnie Swindal married John Thomas Foster.

Mary and Sarah were sisters and the children of Berry Swindal and Margaret Emma Robbins Swindal. Miles was a son of Miles Fowler and Jane Fondren Fowler. Isaac was a son of Miles Travis Fowler and Alice M Allie Shaver Fowler. Miles grandparents were Wiley Fowler and Rachel Lewis Fowler, who were also great grandparents of Isaac. Miles and Isaac were 1st cousins, once removed. John Foster was great grandson of Thomas Foster and Ginsey Jane Fowler Foster and therefore shared gg grandparents with Isaac Fowler so he and Isaac were 3rd cousins while John Foster and Miles Lafayette Fowler were 2nd cousins, once removed.

Margaret Toy Foster married John Victor Swindal. Margaret was John T and Minnie's daughrter. John was a 1st cousin, once removed of Minnie. John V's mother was a Fountain. Other notes show the significance of Fountains/Fowlers.

Six of the children of Berry and Margaret Swindal married Fountains, Fowlers and a Foster. I believe the only one who married who did not marry a Fountain Fowler or Foster was Samuel Young Swindal. One of his two sons became Command Pilot, Air Force One, for President John F Kennedy.

Jane Fondren and Miles Fowler are my gg grandparents. Rachel Lewis and Wiley Fowler are my ggg grandparents. Ginsey Fowler and Thomas Foster are also my ggg grandaprents.

These marriages represent the four generations of Fowlers and Fosters. I have reconstructed the story to try to make it clearer. Wiley Fowler and Ginsey Jane Fowler were brother and sister. The bloodlines all come back along these two lines.

  • First Generation

Thomas Foster to Ginsey Jane Fowler in April of 1821. Their marriage ended with the passing of Thomas around 1850.

  • Second Generation

William M Foster and Missouria Fowler. William was the son of Thomas and Ginsey while Missouria was the daughter of Wiley Fowler and Rachel Lewis. Missouria was also a niece of Ginsey. William and Missouria were 1st cousins. They married in Coosa County, Alabama in 1842. Their marriage ended in 1864 or 1865 with the passing of William. There would then be a 13 or 14 year break with no Fowler/Foster in wedlock that I am aware of.

  • Third Generation

William Wiley Fowler and Elizabeth Jane Foster. William Wiley Fowler was a son of Miles Fowler and Jane Fondren, grandson of Wiley Fowler and Rachel Lewis and Ginsey was his grandaunt. Elizabeth was a daughter of Thomas Foster Jr and Martha Baggett and granddaughter of Thomas Foster Sr and Ginsey Jane Fowler. William Wiley Fowler and Elizabeth Jane Foster were 2nd cousins. They married in 1878 in Perry County, Alabama. That marriage ended with the passing of Elizabeth in 1919. James Peter Foster married Mary Adeline Fowler. James was another son of Thomas Foster Jr and Martha Baggett. Mary was a daughter of Miles Fowler and Jane Fondren and sister of William Wiley Fowler and Ginsey was her grandaunt. They too were 2nd cousins. They were married in 1879 according to the 1900 census. That marriage ended with the passing of James in 1926. Elias Sauter Foster and Rachel Desmond Fowler. Rachel was a granddaughter of Wiley Fowler and Rachel Bishop Lewis and Ginsey was her grandaunt. Elias was a grandson of Thomas and Ginsey by way of Thomas Foster Jr and Martha Baggett. Elias and Rachel were second cousins. They married about 1887 according to the 1900 census and that was probably in Perry County, Alabama. That marriage ended with the passing of Elias in 1941.

  • Fourth Generation

Alvin Berry Foster, son of John Thomas Foster, grandson of Thomas Foster Jr and great grandson of Thomas Foster and Ginsey Jane Fowler, married Elma Nora Fowler. Elma was a daughter of Lewis Walter Fowler and Juline Bell Holley, a grand daughter of William Thomas Fowler, a great granddaughter of Wiley William Fowler and great great granddaughter of Wiley Fowler and Ginsey was her great great grandaunt. Alvin was a 3rd generation Foster/Fowler. Elma was a 4th generation Fowler. Alvin and Emma were married around 1927 according to the 1930 census, thus the Fowler/Foster connection had already spanned over a century at that time. They were 3rd cousins, once removed. That marriage ended with the passing of Alvin in 1982. Bernice Raye Foster, daughter of Robert Thomas Foster and grandaughter of Richard Lafayette Foster, great granddaughter of Thomas Foster Jr and great great granddaughter of Thomas Foster and Ginsey Jane Fowler, married Lewis Clemon Fowler. Lewis is a brother of Elma mentioned abov in this paragraph so his lineage is the same as hers so as not to restate it here. Bernice and Lewis married about 1931 and they were 4th cousins. They were married after the 1930 census. That marriage ended with the passing of Lewis in 1981.

Footnote

I believe at this time that the death of Alvin Foster in 1982 may have ended over 160 years of the Fowler/Foster connection. There was only the 13 or 14 year span noted at the end of the 2nd generation when there was not a Fowler/Foster marriage of these bloodlines during that time.

  • Wiley Fowler is my ggg grandfather. Ginsey Jane Fowler and Thomas Foster are my ggg grandparents. William Wiley Fowler and Elizabeth Jane Foster are my g grandparents. Mary Adeline Fowler and James Peter Foster are my gg aunt and uncle, both by blood. Rachel Desmond Fowler and Elias Sauter Foster are my gg aunt and uncle, both by blood.
