Biography

This profile is part of the Libby Name Study.

Note: Because of a great deal of similar names, as well as multiple intermarriages in the Libby family tree, Charles Libby, author of The Libby Family in America devised a numbering system from the Immigrant. The immigrant on WikiTree is John Libby. Each child is numbered in order, so John Libby is Child 1 (or Libby 1). Each of his children is numbered in order (1-1, 1-2, 1-3) etc. and each of their children takes the digits of the parent and adds their birth order number.

Ebenezer is Libby 1-6-9-3 (3rd child of the 9th child of the 6th child of the first child of the Immigrant)

Libby 1-6-9 Charles Libby, born in Berwick, Me., 29 December 1721; married 24 Dec. 1744 Abigail Hinton. He was a farmer, and lived and died on his father's homestead. His death occurred 8 Sept. 1772. His wife outlived him.

Libby 1-6-9-3 Ebenezer Libby, B. 8 Feb 1748, in Berwick; married, 16 Dec 1770, Elizabeth Quint of Berwick. He was a farmer and lived two and a half miles from South Berwick Village, on the road to Portsmouth, on a farm called Old Fields. 26 Nov. 1776, he went out in an American privateer, probably the Charming Polly; he was one of the crew of that vessel when she was captured, 16 May 1777. He was carried to England. It appears he was afterward exchanged, but never reached home. His fate was never known.
