David Lillie was born in Lebanon, Connecticut in 1742. By 1790, he had moved to Bethel, Vermont, where he lived the rest of his life. David Lillie died in Bethel, Vermont on 1 Sep 1827.

David Lillie married Huldah Blodgett on 19 Sep 1771 in Stafford, Connecticut. They had seven known children together.
David Lilley enlisted on 10 Jul 1775 as a Corporal in Captain Charles Ellsworth's Company, 8th Connecticut Regiment. He was discharged on 18 Dec 1775.[3][4]
Another soldier with similar name, David Lillye, served as ensign in the eighth company, Seventh regiment of Connecticut militia.[5] He was commissioned on 6 Jul 1775 and discharged on 22 Dec 1775.
