Biography
Alton was born in 1910. Alton Lindley ... He passed away in 1985. [1]
Alton was a member of the Greatest Generation. He served with the US Army Air Corp and then with the United States Air Force, retiring as a Chief Master Sargent. He participated in the Normandy Invasion, survived and fought his way to liberate the death camps in Germany.
He participated in the Korean Conflict and met my mother (Yi, Hak Cha) there to shared a love story worthy of a Hollywood movie (as she described it). He retired from the USAF in Korea and stayed on as a civil engineer. As a member of the "Wrecking Crew", he and his friends helped to rebuild the Korean infrastructure and provide clean drinking water for the people.
Desipte his haunting memories, losing all his teeth from a rifle butt to the face in hand to hand combat, aches and pains from pieces of shrapnel still in his arms and legs, a cigar box full of Purple Hearts and other medals - he was a gentle and loving man. A grateful man. A proud, yet humble man. His friends called him "Smiley". I called him Dad...
