Thomas was born about 1748. He was the son of Wilhelm Linger and Hester LaPlante. He passed away after 1776.

According to family stories that have been passed down through the generations, Thomas was a Hessian soldier during the American Revolution. He first arrived in New York from a ship carrying the soldiers from Germany.

Thomas was captured by the Continental Army and given the choice to remain a prisoner or fight for the Continental Army. He chose to fight and so he switched sides.

Despite exhaustive research, neither Thomas or his brother, Nicholas, can be found in any Hessian soldier rosters.

There is also no definitive source for confirming his parents but it is believed to be William Linger and Hester LaPlante.
