Biography

George W Linn was born 7 Jan 1842 in Marion County, Virginia. He was the son of Gibson Linn (age 59) and his wife Tabitha Reese.

1850 U.S. Census Gibson Linn (age 49) and his wife Tabitha (age 39) were living in Marion, Virginia with their children: Sarah (age 18), Hugh (age 15), Nancy (age 13), Mary A (age 11), George W (age 8), William (age 7), Samuel (age 3) and John (age 10 months). All were born in Virginia. Hugh, Mary, and George are attending school. Gibson is a farmer. Value of real estate: $700. Hugh is helping with the farm. Tabitha can not read/write. ^[1]

In 1860 Gibson Linn (age 59) and his wife Tabitha (age 49)were living in Mason, Virginia with their children: Nancy (age 23), Mary A (age 21), George W (age 18), William (age 15), Samuel (age 13) and John (age 10). All were born in Virginia. Gibson is a farmer. Real estate value: $1000; Prsonal property: $375. ^[2]

George Linn married Matilda Williams, daughter of John Williams of Quiet Dell. Their children are: 1 Rachel Ann. 2 Howard, 3 Ray, and 4 Robert (Little Bob).

3a RACHEL ANN LINN married Thomas B. Nixon. They had one child, Lena Nixon, who married Frank Parker, son of William and Sedona (Stephens) Parker, of Fairmont, W. Va. Their children are: 1 Vivian Laura Parker, born July 28, 1914; 2 Anna Rigena, born Jan. 9, 1916; 3 Alice Annetta, born Nov. 19, 1918; 4 Sedona Lee, born April 2, 1921; 5 Clara Madonna, born Mar. 1, 1923; and 6 Joan, born Dec. 2, 1924. Frank Parker is a printer and works in New York City where the family now reside.

3d ROBERT LINN (Little Bob), son of George and Matilda (Williams) Linn, married Jennie Griffith and lives at Kingmont where he has been in the employ of the Pittsburgh & Virginia Coal & Coke Co., for many years. Their children are: 1 Nettie, 2 Hiram, 3 Matilda, 4 Blanche, 5 George, and 6 James.

3d-i NETTIE LINN, daughter of Robert and Jennie (Griffith) Linn, married Jesse Smallwood. They have had ten children, but have no record of names or dates.

3d-ii HIRAM LINN, son of Robert and Jennie (Griffith) Linn, married Sina Rice, daughter of John Rice of Kingmont. They have two children.

3d-iii BLANCHE LINN, daughter of Robert and Jennie (Griffith) Linn, married Dorsey West, son of James and Susan West. They have four children living and two dead.

3d-iv MATILDA LINN, daughter of Robert and Jennie (Griffith) Linn, married Mr. Steward. She has since dies, no dates given.

3d-v GEORGE LINN, son of Robert and Jennie (Griffith) Linn is married and has one child. He lives at Kingmont.

3d-vi JAMES LINN, son of Robert and Jennie (Griffith) Linn, is unmarried and lives with his parents at Kingmont.

4 SAMUEL died in childhood.

5 JOHN died in childhood.

6 ISABELLA died in childhood.

7 NANCY LINN, daughter of Gibson and Tabitha (Reese) Linn. married Marion Vincent, a farmer and merchant living on Grassy Run.

8 MARY LINN, daughter of Gibson and Tabitha (Reese) Linn, married Stephen Vincent. No further records.

9 SARAH LINN, daughter of Gibson and Tabitha (Reese) Linn, was born Sept. 30, 1831, and died Dec. 28, 1899. She married Nimrod Lake on Nov. 21, 1850. He was born July 10, 1829, and died Jan. 30, 1903. Their children are: 1 Tabitha, born Sept. 7, 1851; 2 Mary E., born July 1, 1854; 3 Gibson L., born Feb. 2, 1856; 4 Nancy A., born April 20. 1857; 5 Isabella, born Oct. 30, 1859; 6 George W., born Feb. 7. 1861; 7 Thomas N., born Mar. 8, 1863; 8 Harriet, born May 7, 1866; 9 William W., born May 5, 1868, and 10 Cora M., born April 10, 1874.

9a TABITHA LAKE, daughter of Nimrod A. and Sarah (Lina) Lake, married Gibson Reese, a son of George and Isabella (Davis) Reese, and a grandson of George and Nancy (Janes) Reese. Gibson Reese was born Mar. 2, 1847. He is the only living grandson (1931) of George Reese Sr., who was the progenitor of the Reese family in Northern West Virginia. Gibson Reese is well preserved and quite active for a man of 84 years. Gibson Reese and Tabitha (Lake) Reese were married Nov. 11, 1869. Their children are: 1 Thomas B., born May 5, 1871, died May 20, 1906; 2 Sarah E., born Aug. 27, 1873; 3 George W., born Oct. 31, 1876; 4 Nimrod A., born Mar. 2, 18i9, died Aug. 1, 1927; 5 Charles W., born Dec. 11, 1881; 6 Laura I., born Mar. 24, 1884; 7 James E., born April 17, 1887; 8 Benjamin F., born Nov. 9, 1889; 9 Nancy I., born July 2, 1892; 10 Walter B., born Dec. 19, 1896. died Nov. 10, 1930; and 11 John L., born Mar. 14, 1899.

9b MARY E. LAKE, daughter of Nimrod A. and Sarah (Linn) Lake, married Hiram Rudy. She died Feb. 23, 1929, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Merrick Vincent, on Glady Creek. The children of Hiram and Mary E. (Lake) Rudy are: 1 Sarah, 2 Martha, 3 George, 4 Henry, S Marion, and 6 Avis.

9c GIBSON L. LAKE was born Feb. 2, 1856.

9d NANCY A. LAKE was born April 20, 1857.

9e ISABELLA LAKE was born Oct. 30, 1859; married Mr. Neal.

9f GEORGE W. LAKE was born Feb. 7, 1861.

9g THOMAS N. LAKE was born Mar. 8, 1863.

9h HARRIETT LAKE was born May 7, 1866; married Mr. Brown.

9i WILLIAM W. LAKE was born May 5, 1868; married Nancy Linn, daughter of Samuel (White Sam) and Elizabeth (Rudy) Linn, Oct. 23, 1901. (See family of Samuel Linn (II)).

9j CORA M. LAKE was born April 10, 1874.
