Biography

TEOFIL J. LISS (Dec. 7, 1895-May 5, 1979) was born in La Salle, the son of Frank Liss (1859-1912) and Jadwiga Roszcyk (1860-1909). He married ANNA E. BEKELESKI (July 17, 1899-Jan. 29, 1988) on Oct. 16, 1917, in St. Valentine’s Church in Peru, Ill., and resided at 1546 Crosat Street in La Salle. They raised Adele Liss from the age of three until her marriage. Teofil was employed by M&H Zinc Co. in La Salle in its acid building until his retirement. He enjoyed taking the family on fishing trips to Bailey Falls and Lake Depue and hunting mushrooms. He died at home of complications at the age of 83. Anna always had a cat. She died at the age of 88 in Care Inn Convalescent Center in La Salle after suffering from an esophagus problem and being restricted to a liquid diet. Members of St. Hyacinth’s Church in La Salle, they are buried in St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery, La Salle, Ill.

Anna and Teofil had three children.

Note: I did not find Teofil in the 1910 Federal census. His mother had died in 1909, while his father may be listed as a boarder (Frank Less in the index) in the household of Joseph and Lottie (Filipiak?)(? Ancestry index has spelled this as Feleksiak, Family Search as Felekseak). I did not find Teofil's younger siblings Stanislaus and Mary in 1910 either.
