Amelia Littlejohn was born on 7 March 1834 to Robert Littlejohn and Amelia Kesson. [1] She died in Kenmay, Aberdeenshire in 1882. She married Alexander Middleton on 2 December 1858 in Chapel of Garioch.[2] Amelia and Alexander had seven known children:
1. Alexander[3]
2. Mary Spark[4]
3. William[5]
4. Charles[6]
5. Margaret[7]
6. Amelia[8]
7. Jane Smith[9]
In 1841, Amelia was living at home with (widow) Littlejohn, at Backhill, Chapel of Garioch [10]. She was age 7, and her siblings were Isobel (9), Helen (5) and Robert (3). By 1851 her mother had remarried, and they are recorded in this census under Geo Wight [11] at the same address of Backhill, Chapel of Garioch. George is a crofter/agricultural labourer, and her mother was recorded as "Emilie". Amelia herself is recorded as "Eml", and two step-siblings have been born (Henry age 8 and Jean age 6). Also living with the family is Jean Seivwright, age 11 and listed as a grandchild of George Wight. This family are found later under the surname WRIGHT.
In 1861, Amelia and Alexander were living in Whitecross, Chapel of Garioch, Aberdeenshire [12]. Alexander was working as a ploughman, and Amelia was a ploughman's wife. One child, Alexander, age 2, is recorded, as is Barbara Middleton (sister of Alexander), age 7, who was a scholar. By 1871 the family are living at Horner Howe, Kemnay, Aberdeen, and Alexander is now a farmer of 6 acres and a granite quarry labourer [13]. Amelia is a farmers wife, and the children listed are Alexander, age 12, William, age 7, Charles, age 4, and Margaret, age 3. In 1881, they are still living at Horner, Kenmay, but Alexander is described as a granite quarry labourer only. Charles and Margaret are still at home, and Amelia, Jane Smith and Mary Spark Middleton have been born.
Amelia's death is recorded on ScotlandsPeople at Kemnay in 1882, age 48.[14]
