John was born in 1825. He was the son of John Livingstone and Margaret Crerar. In 1861, John, Catherine Stewart, their children, and John’s parents lived in Easthope in a 1-story log house that had been built in 1856. Also in their household was George Logan (42, b. Scotland), whose religion was listed as “infidel”.
John and family lived in Easthope in 1871, Henderson, Granville, North Carolina, in 1880, Silver Creek, Manitoba in 1891, and Marquette, Manitoba in 1906 and 1911.
John’s obituary (from Find a Grave): “We regret to announce the death of Mr. John Livingstone which took place Sunday, Sept. 28th. at the advanced age of 88 years. The t deceased was one of the earliest pioneers, both in the provinces of Ontario and Manitoba. Born in Glen Quaigh, Perthshire, Scotland, on Aug. 15, 1825. He emigrated to Canada when only about 15 years of age and settled in the township of north-east Hope, Ont., where he resided until 1875 when he moved to the state of North Carolina, where he remained about 8 years and then came and settled in the municipality of Silver Creek, until about 7 years ago, when he retired to our village of Binscarth. The funeral service took place last Tuesday at the Presbyterian church And the interment afterwards in Binscarth, the Rev, McLaren officiating at the service.”
