Biography

Robert Lock was a convict after the Third Fleet transported to New South Wales

Robert was born and baptised on 15 July 1800 at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England, with Father: John Lock and Mother: ?Hannah Lock? Robert is the child of Jonathon Lock and Sarah Elmer. [1]

He was aged 21 when convicted at the Norfolk Quarter Session on 10 January 1821 to be transported to New South Wales. The voyage date for departure was 3 May 1821 and the ship "Granada" arrived at Sydney Cove on 16 September 1821. He married Maria in 1824 with her surname as Cook on the Ancestry Marriage record, with the marriage registered at Parramatta, New South Wales [more details of the first official marriage of a British convict to an Aboriginal woman are to be found on Maria's profile]. He was living at Cabramatta in 1928 aged 28, a Carpenter with Maria aged 20. From 1827 to 1845 they produced 11 children, according to Ancestry Family Trees, and one of their sons, William Leslie had 13. Robert died in 1854 with his death registered at Prospect, New South Wales, Australia
