Thomas Locke, of London was born about 1595, possibly at Thames Ditton, Kingston, Surrey, England (now London, England). Alternate place of birth: Yorkshire, England. His parents are unknown. He is not to be confused with Thomas Locke (10 Feb 1611-12; will 1663) of Somerset, who is well-sourced as the son of Nicholas Locke and Frances Lansden.[1] [2]
Thomas Locke, born about 1595, may be the Thomas Locke baptized in London, England on Aug. 23, 1595, son of Thomas Locke.[3] Thomas married Christian French. He was not the father of Nathaniel Locke, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Capt. John Locke.
In Book of the Lockes[4] the White Chapel Register, London shows that Thomas Lock of London married Christian French, July 26, 1624. The official marriage record shows Christian “Frenell” (transcription error?) married Thomas “Lock” at Whitechapel St Mary Matfallon in London, England on July 26, 1624.[5]
Thomas and Christian had sons John, baptized Sept. 16, 1627, at St. Mary, Whitechapel, Stepney, London, England;[6] and Nathaniel, baptized Nov. 11, 1629, at Whitechapel, London, England.[7]
Thomas died about Aug. 14, 1628/9, aged 29-37, at London, Middlesex, England and was buried on that day[4] at St. Pauls Churchyard, Shadwell, London, Middlesex, England.
See Nathaniel Locke for origins of the Locke family of New Hampshire, New England.
