William Rufus Montgomery, was he a brother to Mary Ann Montgomery, who was married to Alexander Moore Long? Mary Ann Montgomerys parents were James Montgomery and Rebecca Davis. From your post I cant quite tell who he is. I do have a William Montgomery listed as a brother to Mary. I dont know his middle name. I have his wife as Sarah Mattock. Perhaps you can help me place your William R. Montgomery in the right place. The others you mentioned I do not know who they are.

If your reply to my query was in regards to who Alexander M. Longs first wife was, her names was Tabitha Vaughan. They had one child, my gr gr grandfather, Archibald M. Long, the oldest child of Alexander M. Long.

Alexander M(oore) Long and Mary Ann Montgomery had 9 children. Their 8th child, a son, was named Rufus C. Long, so there apparently was a namesake of Rufus somewhere in the family.

Same thread:

Benjamin Jr. Long, born October 08, 1759 in Orange County, N.C.; died Abt 1830. He was the son of Benjamin Sr. Long and Mary Bond. He married Rachel Moore May 24, 1780. Rachel Moore was the daughter of Rev. Alexander Moore and Marian.

Notes Abstracts of Rev. War Pension Files:

Benjamin, S8851, NC Line, sol was b 8 Oct 1759 in Orange County NC & he lived in Caswell Co NC at enl & also srv as a sub for a John Long (relationship not stated) , after the Rev sol continued to live in Caswell Co NC except for a few months in Pittsylvania County Va, sol m somestimes in May the yr of Gate4s'defeat at Camden (wife wasn't named), he appl 5 Nov 1833 Caswell Co NC & he had also married there...

He took part in the Battle of Camden, the memorable battle of Gen. Gate's defeat, and wrote in his pension application, Though most of the militia never fired a gun, we fired two rounds before we ran.

Benjamin Jr. received a share of his father's land (520 acres) on Storey Creek in what is now Person County. This tract included the area presently called Chub Lake.

Children of Benjamin Long and Rachel Moore are:

i. William Gabriel Long, born Abt 1787 in Virginia; married (1) Cora (or Clara); married (2) Bridget (Biddy) Van Hook December 23, 1809; married (3) Bridget (Biddy) Van Hook December 23, 1809. ii. Elizabeth Gaines Long, married (1) Lawrence Van Hook; married (2) Lawrence Van Hook. iii. Alexander Moore Long. Became a lawyer. My Alexander's son, Archibald, was very active in Dade County government, and later became a judge. iv. John Long, married Eunice Lea Rose October 30, 1812. Benjamin Lloyd Long is my gggrandfather. He married Eliza King and had John William Long who married Patty Byrd. He lived in MS then moved to the Corpus Christi, TX area where he had a schooner named "Loid Van Hook" (city directory 1907-8). This leads me to believe that at least he is a son of William Gabriel Long and Biddy Van Hook. In addition it appears that he was named for his grandparents-Benjamin Long and Lloyd Van Hook.
