Biography

Matthew was the youngest son and last child born to John Long and Catherine Linehan Long. He was born in March, 1878 in Canandaigua, New York. His father died shortly after Matthew's birth.

Matthew never married and lived with his birth family until his death. On his World War I draft registration card, he lists his employment as a traveling salesman for the Holman and Mittenthal company in New York City. His older sister Mary is listed as the next of kin. He is described as a tall man with a medium build, blue eyes and gray hair.
