Birth

It should be noted that Wikipedia[1] and other sources state that John Wentworth Loring was born on the 13th October, 1775. However the Loring Genealogy, a well researched book,[2] states that he was born on the 13th October, 1773. The source of the dates of any of these is unknown.

1789 Left America

The Loring family were Loyalists, and were ultimately forced to flee to Britain in 1789.[3]

1804 Marriage

John Wentworth Loring married Anna Patton on the 18th of July, 1804[4] at Saint Martin In The Fields, Westminster, London, England.

1815 CB

John Wentworth Loring was nominated a C.B. 4th of June, 1815.[13]

1837-40 KCH/KCB

John Wentworth Loring was nominated a K.C.H. 30th of April, 1837, was created a K.C.B. on the 4th of July, 1840.[14]

1842 Residence

PEARTREE HOUSE - Built 16th Century and altered and enlarged during 18th Century. George Waring lived at the house in the early 19th century and in 1828, his widow sold Peartree House to Mrs Webber. She in turn passed it on c1835 to General Shrapnel, inventor of the shrapnel shell (he died in 1842). From then until 1853 the house was occupied by Rear Admiral Sir J Wentworth Loring and his family.[15] The family moved to Ryde, Isle of Wight some time between 1851 and 1861 (Census dates)

1852 Death

John died on the 29th July. 1852 at Ryde on the Isle of Wight.[16]

1798: Lieut. Loring was advanced to the acting-command of the Rattler
1798: September. Captain The Lark. The appointment being confirmed, 3 Jan. 1799
1801: April and Oct. 1801, to the Abergavenny of 54, and the Syren of 32 guns.
1803: The Utrecht , flag-ship in the Downs of Rear-Admirals Robt. Montagu, Philip Patton, and John Holloway
1805: The Aurora
1805: The Niobe
1813: The Impregnable, flag-ship of Admiral Wm. Young
1810: Capt. Loring captured L’Hirondelle privateer of 4 guns and 30 men
1816: Capt. Loring was Superintendent of the Ordinary at Sheerness.
1819: He became Lieutenant-Governor of the Royal Naval College
1837: Flag-rank 10 Jan. 1837.
1846: He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral 9 Nov.
