Biography

Sarah was employed as a Servant by Arthur Pugh, a Bankers Clerk of Islington.

Sarah Lovelock married Edmund Joyce of Wiltshire. She had 2 known children before they left England, Ellen Louisa and Anne Maria.

They emigrated to New Zealand about 1873 and settled in Brighton, Dunedin where Edmund took up farming.

No further children were born after the family's arrival in New Zealand.

Sarah was widowed in 1902 when Edmund died aged 62.

She passed away 22 years later aged 86. Sarah is buried with Edmund at Green Island Cemetery. BLK 1 PLOT 91.

Sarah's length of residence in New Zealand at her death is given as 65 years which would be incorrect.

Edmund's record states his residency was 29 years in 1902 so Sarah's would be about 51 years. Daughter Ellen Louisa Davey (daughter) residency given as 72 years which ties in with Edmund. Ellen Louisa is also buried in the family plot.
