Somerset was the son of Armar Lowry-Corry and Margaret Butler He was born in Dublin on the 11th July 1774, and succeeded to the title, 2nd Earl of Belmore, in 1802. [1]
He married Juliana Butler.[2]
Somerset Lowry-Corry was an Irish Administator, a traveller and a collector. He was governor and Custos Rotulorum (Keeper of the Rolls) for County Tyrone, and at one time, for Jamaica.
Somerset Lowry-Corry was by reputation, "the lame earl who ran through most of the Belmore Estate." [3] He traveled extensively in Egypt, excavating in Western Thebes and exploring the Nile river as far as the Second Cataract. He traveled throughout Syria and Palestine, collecting antiquities, including a large collection of for Henry Salt which are now part of the British Museum collections. [4]
He died in Leamington Spa on the 18th April 1841.
