Stella Irene Mary Lupton was born on 19 January 1908 in Peachland, British Columbia, Canada, daughter of William Lupton and Mary Helen Baird Aitkens.

Her siblings were:

1. Helen Frances (Lupton) Rowcliffe (1909 - 1995)
2. Reginald William Lupton (1913 - 1996)
